On June 8, 2002 we lost our son Nathan Eisert to suicide.  Until shortly before his death, Nathan had been a basketball player for Western Kentucky University.  During his final year at WKU, Nathan endured injury and undiagnosed depression. Without treatment, he was released from the
team and died five weeks later.

After Nathan died, we found out that suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States for 15 to 34 year-olds. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for college students.  There are at around 30,000 known suicide deaths in our country each year, and many more that are not listed as such on death certificates.  Our family has learned that with awareness, education, better access to treatment and removal of barriers to seeking help, suicide can often be avoided.  For our family and others, bringing suicide prevention awareness and education has become our directive.

Shortly before what would have been Nathan’s 21st birthday,
and the first anniversary of his death, I was inspired with the lyrics and music to the song “Tell Them Momma”.  I felt that the song was a gift both from God and from my son.  To me, the song is a confirmation of our directive to tell our story and to bring this issue out in the open, so that lives can be saved.

The young men and women on the cover of the CD were all between the ages of 15 and 34 when they lost their lives to suicide.  Every day, each of their families and too many others, struggle to bring meaning to our loss.
